Microsoft Gears of War Commercial

Wow I have to admit that I was impressed by this commercial for a Microsoft Video Game. The way they used a different kind of soundtrack other than the firing of guns and rock music really worked for me.

I also think it's interesting that it's been remixed a bunch by folks on YouTube. Found through Newsweek of all places (yes I read Newsweek)

I have recently got into the business and have had the opportunity to work on a couple of really cool projects with BioWare for upcoming titles. It is revitalizing to see the industry embrace its artistic and inspiring side with an ad like this.

It is a the new medium of art that affords so many people something that other mediums cannot - the user experience. The emotional thrill ride that leaves you breathless at the end

Actually the song is by Michael Andrews, but I agree if you like the song, you'll like Donnie Darko. This is the best game commercial i've ever seen

I really liked the song on the commercial. I think they should make more commercials like that because its prolly the coolest 1 ive seen for a game.

That song would have been awesome for the commercial of the Metal Gear game coming out next year. I still hope Konami does the same type of thing. That really was a great commercial. The best song and scenes combo I have seen in a commercial since one that came out last year for the TV show The Shield. Thanks for posting the name of the song. I will definately be downloading it.

It just goes to show that sometimes playing the music that people least expect for the game has the largest impact. Music has such a large impact, and can either destroy a game, TV show, or ad.

The opera music for one of the Starcraft Brood War previews that came with Blizzard products was amazing. The Homeworld soundtrack has to have been one of the greatest soundtracks that fit the game all too well. Battlestar Galactica has an amazing soundtrack that fits all too well with the scenes.

...and this game sells itself in that commercial. I am simply silent everytime that commercial comes on. The timing of the action with the music and lyrics is pinnacle.

The original version of this tune was by Tears for Fears and this version is by Gary Jules. Michael Andrews wrote all the other music for Donnie Darko save for this tune. Google it and you'll see.

I like this version better than TOF and it fits the commercial perfectly. Looking at the gameplay for GOW I think this game will stand up against any FPS out there and will set its own standard for a few years.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear someone previewing a game in the future and asking, "Is this game the new Gears of War?"
